Family Matters

Nobody plans on entering into a marriage that will fail. Nobody plans on getting into financial trouble. Nobody plans on struggling with an addiction. Nobody plans on being a judgmental or angry person. With all these issues, we can tell ourselves that we’ll try harder and won’t do it again.  However this is only a temporary solution at best. So, what steps can we take to ensure these things don’t happen?

“Some people experience heaven on earth and they call it marriage. Some people experience hell on earth and they call it marriage. How can both be?” (Colin Cruz)

The Family is divine in origin and godly marriage is the steady anchor that keeps it from drifting.

‘It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him’” (Genesis 2:18).

So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to come over the man, and he slept. God took one of his ribs and closed the flesh at that place. Then the LORD God made the rib He had taken from the man into a woman and brought her to the man” (Genesis 2:21-22).

Today mom and dad face a great deal of challenges to keep the family focused, fed and financially sound. The key to keeping the family healthy is keeping mom and dad healthy: physically, emotionally and spiritually.

So how do we keep mom and dad at their best? Begin with your spiritual health. The Bible tells us tell us in 2 Tim. 1:7

for God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind;"

"for God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

Those words: "of a sound mind" have a depth of meaning that is worthy of examination. In an upside down world where things that are wrong are painted as right. In a world where we witness daily our leaders, lay blame and justify their un-ethical behavior, the truth gets cloudy. Only by clinging to the truth (Jesus) can we get clarity of focus.

When mom and dad are spiritually refreshed, spirit led and spirit filled the family has not only good leadership it has Godly leadership. No matter what crises the family faces: financial, physical, emotional, job loss, death, false accusation. With God at the center the family will exit the crises in tact and likely closer than ever.
