UNSHAKABLE FAITH AND HEARING
Faith is an integral part of a healthy spiritual life. It is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things unseen. As Christians, we are called to walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). But where does faith come from? According to Romans 10:17, faith comes by hearing.
This is one of the most powerful truths in the Bible, and it has helped countless people understand how faith works. At the heart of this verse is the idea that faith is a response to hearing something. When we hear the Gospel message of Jesus Christ, it is up to us to accept it and trust it. This is what faith is all about, and it is this trust that helps us stay connected to God.
It is in no way a blind trust, we are basing it upon the truths of scripture. What God has done in the lives of His people like Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Joshua, Ruth and all of the great heros of faith in the Bible. The idea of faith coming from hearing is an important truth that can help us deepen our faith. When we take the time to listen to the Word of God, it can help us build our faith and trust in the Lord.
We can also hear teachings, sermons, and testimonies of faith that can help us grow in our faith. No matter what our current spiritual condition may be, taking time to hear the Word of God can help us grow in faith. As we listen to God's Word and meditate on it, we can develop a greater trust in Him and a deeper faith. Not only do we have a record of God's faithfulness toward His ancient people we have a personal record of God's faithfulness in our lives, the lives of our church family as well.
The next time you are looking to increase your faith, don't forget the importance of hearing. Take time to listen to the Word of God and His teachings, and you will gain a greater faith. The Holy Spirit brings these truths to life as we invite God’s presence as we read. As we read His Holy Spirit transfers us from the exercise of intellectual endeavor to a meaningful encounter with God as the instructor and us as student.
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (II Timothy 2:15)
