CONFORM vs. TRANSFORM
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. (Romans 12:2)
Romans 12:2 is a powerful verse that reminds us to not conform to the patterns of this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. In a culture that constantly bombards us with its values and ideologies, it is crucial for us as believers to stand firm in our faith and align our thoughts with God's truth. This verse challenges us to resist the pressure to conform and instead seek transformation through the Holy Spirit. As we allow God to shape our thinking, we will gain a renewed perspective and discernment, enabling us to live in accordance with His perfect will. Let us strive each day to surrender our minds to God and be transformed from the inside out, so that our lives may reflect His love, grace, and truth.
The more people seek individuality outside of biblical relationship with God, the more they will conform to sameness. Impatient, undisciplined, rebellious, driven by our wants, desires and lusts. Conforming in rebellion against the God of the Bible leads to enslavement to sin. Conforming to the nature of the god of their sin. It also leads to a selfish and self driven life. A worldview that has “me” as the dominant figure.
If we remain the central figure of our story we will conform to a truth that best fits our comfort. It only makes sense that if “I” am central to my story, “I” need the story to reflect that truth. Living for self fits nicely into our current culture. We can pick our own pronouns, set up our own echo chamber where whatever we say is echoed by those who live in our chamber. The question we must all ask and answer is this… Where does our world view lead? Where will our world view ultimately take us?
How can your world view be tranformed? This passage gives us the opening key… “renewing of our minds”. Conformity to the patters of the world is easy, we live in the world we are accustomed to the practices of our world it is almost second nature. So renewal of our minds will require stepping out of the norm or stepping out of the conformity and stepping into the NEW. We are the product of what we consume the most. We need to change our habits to get NEW results.
