Christianity in America today...

The parade of those who claim they have been offended, misunderstood by society and especially by Christians is endless. They are seeking a cure that involves a pound of flesh. Remove the marks of Christianity from the history of America: remove Christ from Christmas, public displays of the ten commandments, make it difficult then impossible for non-profits who hold to Christian values to have and hold real property, hire according to their faith, practice business as a faith based organization.

I am painting a dark picture with this post and there is good reason. We are seeing the sunset of religious freedom in America for Christianity. The Article below is copied from World the religious section.

“Ignoring overwhelming opposition, the California State Assembly Judiciary Committee voted 7-2 Thursday to advance legislation that strips faith-based schools of their ability to enforce biblical codes of conduct. The bill has one more committee to clear before going to the full Assembly in August.

After two people spoke in support of the bill, more than three dozen opponents approached the podium and asked the committee to reject the measure that cleared the Senate on May 26 with full Democratic support. By the end of the hearing, questions about religious freedom violations, possible state funding losses, and legal action against Christian schools lingered—as did misgivings about the bill’s true intent.”

Many Christian leaders warned of the coming tolerance demand that will leave Christian religious institutions all across America vulnerable to legal actions that could shut their doors for good. Across America laws are being passed in the name of tolerance that threaten Christian values and beliefs and put in jeopardy the tax exempt status of many local churches.

A recent court case underway in Iowa is an example. This case seeking clarity on whither a Christian is subject to a new interpretation of the 2007 Iowa Civil Rights Act. This interpretation added the LBGT community demands for tolerance. Asking for clarity from local government as to if it would require local church congregations to create gender natural restrooms and open pastors to prosecution should they teach Biblical based values the commission responded:

“Sometimes. Iowa law provides that these protections do not apply to religious institutions with respect to any religion-based qualifications when such qualifications are related to bona fine religious purpose. Where qualifications are not related to bona fide religious purpose, churches are still subject to the law’s provision (e.g. a child care facility operated at a church or a church service open to the public)”

So who gets to decide what is and what is not bona fide religious activity?

It is unlikely a panel of Christian pastors will be making this decision. What we need in America today is real Spiritual Awakening!

We need real SPIRITUAL AWAKENING!

I am not talking about a private gathering of Christians in the safety of their buildings going though religious exercise, breaking a sweat and shedding tears. I am talking about the kind of spiritual awakening that drives Christianity out into the streets of America to help the poor, pray for the sick, problem solve the big issues of our cities and be a part of the solution.

It is time to do Christianity not discuss it. Forget the do nothing congress you hear about what about the do nothing churches across America. Are we ready to RISE up! Isn't it time we carry the Cross out into the streets!
